Visiting an Inmate

Visitor Approval Process & Restrictions:

  1. Inmates shall provide the names and dates of birth of family and friends.

  2. These requests are then pre-screened and pre-approved prior to the incarcerated individual being allowed to schedule a visit.

  3. The maximum number of visitors per inmate per visiting period shall be three (3). Two (2) adults, with one (1) child or one (1) adult with two (2) children may visit an inmate at the same time, provided they register together during the registration process.

  4. The visitor registration area will be open 15 minutes prior to the start of the visiting period.  Visitors will not be processed during the last 30 minutes of visiting period.​

  5. Maintaining positive community ties is an important component to an inmate’s eventual return to society, and to that end, inmates are encouraged to have family and friends visit.

Children (Under 17)

  1. ​Persons under (17) years of age will not be allowed to visit unless they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.  Anyone under the age of (17) must provide proof of the minor’s relationship to the inmate either in the form of a birth certificate or official adoption papers.

Visitor Rules of Conduct:

  1. Visitors must fill out the Request to Visit Inmate Form completely upon entering the lobby.

  2. ​Visitors must be searched and scanned with the metal detector.  They will be responsible for any item that may set off the metal detector.

  3. Visitors will furnish satisfactory identification credentials upon request of an officer in charge.  Acceptable identification cards include: valid driver's license, Mass State ID, Mass Welfare ID, and valid passport.

  4. Visitors must conduct themselves in an appropriate manner; the following will not be tolerated and will be grounds for refusal or termination ov visit:

    • Rude or unruly behavior;

    • Use of obscene language;

    • Threat or use of physical violence;

    • Possession of contraband (weapons, cigarettes, alcohol & drugs);

    • Attempt to visit any inmate other then the one designated on the visitor's pass;

    • Wandering about the institution, and;

    • Visitors must be dressed in an appropriate fashion.

  5. ​Visitors must wear appropriate clothing and will be restricted from wearing or dressing in the following attire or manner:​

    • ​Shorts: Only walking shorts that fall above the kneewill be allowed.  No short shorts or mini-skirts will be allowed;

    • No halter tops, tank tops, bralessness, or barre shoulders;

    • No bare feet or open toed shoes;

    • No spandex pants or excessively tight or revealing clothing;

    • No hats, and;

    • No low cut or revealing blouses or undershirts.

  6. ​All parcels will be pre-approved by the Property Officer.  Any articles not on the approved list will not be allowed.

  7. All funds will be mailed in the form of a money order, bank check, or certified check, which will be placed in the inmate's account.  The Keefe Commisary Kiosk located in the main lobby also takes cash, debit or credit cards.  The rules for the Kiosk are available near the unit.

  8. No Cell Phones â€‹- Visitors must leave all personal items in the lockers.​​​​​​​​

Visitors who violate visiting rules may have visiting privileges suspended and could face criminal prosecution.
