Training

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Training Division provides classroom instruction and hands-on training to deputy sheriffs, correctional officers and support staff in accordance with standards set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Corrections and other nationally recognized standards.

The Training Division in collaboration with other neighboring Sheriffs’ Offices (Hampshire, Berkshire, Hampden) oversees a nine-week officer training academy which consists of a paramilitary team-building environment and covers 280 hours of curriculum in areas such as policies/protocols, emergency management procedures, firearms, defensive tactics, and other areas as they relate to the day-to-day operations of the Department.   The Division also offers training opportunities to local police departments within Franklin County and works closely with local municipalities for training in the area of emergency preparedness for disaster events both internal and external to the facility. Additionally, the Training Division provides required annual in-service training for employees, as well as certifications and re-certifications in CPR/First Aid and First Responder.
