Making Franklin County Schools Safer

04/16/2013

"We are their friends and protectors..."

Franklin County Sheriff Chris Donelan reads a book to students in the Gill Elementary School in advance of training to be done there by the School Safety and Security Task Force.

According to Sheriff Donelan, this was Gill's way of preparing kids for the presence of public safety officials in the school.  "Each district is unique," Donelan said.  "We want the kids to recognize that we are their friends and protectors, and this reading program was Gill's way of delivering that message."

The School Safety and Security Task Force, made up of State Police and Sheriff's Deputies, has been very active in the past few months training staff and conducting drills in schools across the county in working with Franklin County schools to train staff and improve building security.
